American Water is a leading water utility company, and they are seeking a Field Maintenance Technician to perform various maintenance and repair tasks related to water and sewer utilities. The role involves working with utility crews, conducting inspections, and ensuring customer service functions are met while maintaining equipment and completing necessary paperwork.
Responsibilities
- Perform J.U.L.I.E. locates
- Perform b-box and valve inspections and maintenance/exercising, fire hydrant flushing inspections, leak detection, reads, tests, and/or installs water meters when needed and performs customer service functions when needed
- Work with utility crews and customers performing various water and sewer utility repairs, maintenance, installs, and a high level of customer service/awareness
- This includes working on main breaks, sanitary sewer backups, and jet flushing sewers
- Willingness to perform any and all job related functions when needed
- Maintain and keep equipment in proper and safe operating condition
- Complete required paperwork and investigations
- Information must be accurate, complete, detailed, and on time
- Works with teams or alone to complete assigned projects on time
- Operate various heavy equipment and vehicles such as dump trucks, water pumps, jackhammers, sewer jet cleaning, vacuum, equipment, tv equipment, etc
- Effectively operate various equipment such as line locators, metal locators, pressure gauges, sawz all, augers, b-box keys, and valve insertion machines
Skills
- H.S. Diploma/GED
- Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent, the ability to perform mathematical calculations related to the job with accuracy, and the ability to communicate effectively with external and internal customers
- Possession of a CDL – class A license with air break endorsement
- Ability to read, install and test water meters
- Ability to walk routes and use meter reading equipment
- Ability to effectively operate, adjust and repair b-box, hydrants and value boxes
- Ability to physically perform manual labor including working overtime when required
- Knowledge of sewer repair, rehab, replacement and maintenance preferred
- Tanker endorsement license preferred
Education Requirements
- Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent, the ability to perform mathematical calculations related to the job with accuracy, and the ability to communicate effectively with external and internal customers.
