About the position
The University of Missouri is seeking a dedicated Academic Advisor for the Division of Biological Sciences within the College of Arts & Science. This role focuses on providing comprehensive academic advising and resource referrals to undergraduate students, assisting them in achieving their academic and career goals. The advisor will play a crucial role in guiding students through important academic decisions, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance student success.
Responsibilities
• Counsel students about career resources, co-curricular activities, and necessary resources to support their professional and personal interests.
• Engage in professional development and advising practices that support students from diverse backgrounds.
• Maintain accurate and confidential electronic records of every student interaction, including in-person, phone, and online visits.
• Collaborate with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Division Director, and departmental faculty on curriculum and student success issues.
• Stay updated on current issues and trends related to college students' academic success and career readiness through active professional development.
• Serve on committees and represent the department at campus-wide events.
Requirements
• A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 1 year of experience in advising, counseling, teaching, or admissions work.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Nice-to-haves
• A Master's degree in a related field.
• Experience in higher education, particularly in student support.
