The City of New York is seeking an Assistant Civil Engineer to support the expansion of the Automated Enforcement program within Traffic Operations. The role involves preparing and reviewing engineering drawings, conducting field visits, and coordinating with design consultants to enhance traffic signal and street lighting projects.
Responsibilities
- Engage in research, investigations, studies or examinations related to the engineering functions, roles, and activities supporting the expansion and modernization of DOT’s Automated Enforcement program
- Prepare designs and plans using AutoCAD, evaluate contract documents and specifications, working drawings and other technical specifications and estimates of quantities
- Conduct field visits and surveys for potential AEU equipment deployment
- Coordinate with design consultants and review submitted plans for the development/modification of new and/or existing signalized intersections and street lighting work
- Advise and make recommendations to other city and state agencies regarding traffic signal and street lighting projects
- Review and approve shop drawings and catalogue cuts for construction
- Maintain records of drawings, plans, maps, surveys and inspections data
Skills
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering
- Candidate should be detailed orientated, accurate, and have excellent verbal and strong writing communication skills
- Candidate should have the ability to work effectively with others and collaborate in a team environment
- Candidate should be proficient in AutoCAD and have strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Candidate must have a valid NYS Driver's License
