About the position
Teladoc Health is seeking a dynamic and experienced In-House Attorney to support its legal team. This fully remote position focuses on managing outside counsel in litigation matters and drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of contracts within a fast-paced, highly regulated healthcare technology environment. The role requires occasional travel to New York City for key meetings and company functions, and the ideal candidate will have a strong background in litigation management and transactional work.
Responsibilities
• Oversee and coordinate with outside counsel on litigation matters, ensuring efficient management of cases and alignment with company goals.
• Serve as the primary point of contact between internal teams and outside counsel, facilitating effective communication and case strategy.
• Review pleadings, motions, discovery materials, and other litigation documents, providing feedback and ensuring they meet company objectives.
• Track litigation timelines, costs, and outcomes, keeping senior leadership informed of key developments and risk exposures.
• Support the collection of internal documents and information for discovery, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
• Provide strategic legal advice to the business on potential and ongoing litigation, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts, including vendor agreements, technology licenses, service agreements, and large-scale partnerships.
• Ensure all contracts comply with applicable healthcare regulations, data privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA), and company policies, minimizing risk exposure.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including procurement, IT, product teams, and senior leadership, to ensure contract terms align with business objectives.
• Manage the contract lifecycle, from initial negotiations through execution, amendments, and renewals, ensuring all deadlines and obligations are met.
• Provide practical legal advice on contract terms, negotiation strategies, and potential risks to support business decision-making.
• Advise on regulatory and compliance matters affecting contracts and litigation, including HIPAA, HITECH, data privacy laws, and healthcare technology regulations.
• Ensure all contracts and litigation strategies comply with relevant laws and regulations and reflect best practices in the healthcare technology space.
• Stay up-to-date on regulatory developments in the healthcare and technology industries and advise on their potential impact on the company's operations.
• Provide general legal support across a wide range of corporate matters, including intellectual property, employment law, and M&A transactions, as needed.
• Assist in the creation and implementation of company policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and minimize risks.
• Collaborate with other members of the legal team to provide seamless support for cross-functional projects and initiatives.
Requirements
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active member in good standing of the New York State bar or eligibility to be admitted as in-house counsel. Other state bar memberships considered.
• 3-5 years of experience in litigation management and contract negotiation, with a strong understanding of the healthcare or technology industries.
• Experience managing complex, high-value contracts, as well as smaller vendor agreements.
• Knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH) and data privacy laws, with experience applying them in contract negotiations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex legal issues to non-legal stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting while managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to New York City for key meetings and events.
