About the Department Job Summary: The Director of Institutional Research serves all units of Hawai’i Pacific University to establish and maintain an institutional research program to support the curricular, analytical, informational, reporting, and accreditation needs of the institution. This position provides leadership for the internal and external reporting of official university statistics; conducts research studies and analyses of university data to support decision making and planning; and handles all internal and external requests for institutional data. Location: Remote Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited university  - Three years of experience in institutional research, preferably within the context of higher education. - Experience in data analysis, including predictive modeling and hierarchical/longitudinal analysis. - Strong computer system skills and a capacity to create dashboard reporting systems (SQL desirable). - Experience and knowledge in survey design, administration, and analysis using statistical software tools. - Experience in data collection, storage warehousing, access, analysis, reporting systems and usage for evidence-based improvements.  Desired Qualifications: - Master's degree from a regionally accredited university  - Three years of experience as a director-level, or higher, of Institutional Research in a college or university setting, leading, directing, and overseeing multiple functions, programs, and activities. - Five years of experience applying advanced measurement and statistical methods using statistical software. - Knowledge of the expectations for student learning assessment established by WSUSC and/or other accrediting organizations. - Expertise in Banner, Blackboard, Cognos reporting, SQL, and IPEDS and US News data reporting. - Forward-thinker, innovative, and proactive in identifying problems and implementing evidence-based improvements. - Excellent collaborative leadership style with a strategic and creative approach to issues, and exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities. - Strong commitment to inclusivity and diversity, and ability to interact effectively with a variety of constituent groups. - Strong organizational and analytic skills to prioritize, take initiative, follow projects through to completion, and manage multiple task/projects. Other Qualifications:  - Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.   - Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU’s winter break, if necessary.  (Remote work is authorized for this position.) - Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy. - Able to work extended hours if needed.   - Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills. - Ability to safeguard sensitive and confidential student and university information and knowledgeable of FERPA law. - Excellent interpersonal communications, written, and graphic presentation skills to effectively collaborate, develop, implement, and communicate data and recommendations with a wide range of stakeholders (board members, administrators, faculty, staff and students) Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions: - Data Collection, Analysis, and Dissemination (80%) - Collect, prepare, analyze, disseminate, and maintain statistical data and periodic reports on enrollment, matriculation, assessment, evaluation, demographics, student success indicators, faculty workload, benchmarking and other related measures to support strategic planning, resource allocation, recruitment and retention, internal and external use and distribution. - Serve as IPEDS key holder by overseeing the completion of IPEDS surveys, ensuring the accuracy of data submitted, and by using IPEDS reporting tools to retrieve comparable data on other institutions for benchmarking purposes. - Schedule and administer standardized surveys such as the NSSE, Graduation Survey, Alumni Survey, and Campus Climate Survey. - Compete the Common Data Set (CDS) and external surveys such as needed. - Work with the Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) to complete annual and special reports in compliance with WSCUC requirements (e.g. annual report, program initiation reports, and substantive change reports) and federal regulations. - Assist the University constituencies with research initiatives, accreditation and institutional learning outcomes assessment, program reviews, faculty-led assessment pertaining to general education and academic programs, accreditation self-studies and grant writing by researching, preparing, analyzing, and reporting data as needed, as well as providing expertise in data collection, data retrieval, research methods, and statistical analysis. - Oversee student course evaluations surveys and reporting. - Develop and maintain an Institutional Research repository. - Develop an institutional research dashboard system which provides current data, trends over time, and comparative benchmark and metrics, developing a list of peer and aspirational schools for external benchmarking, and responding to ad-hoc data requests as needed. - Work with the CIO and Vice President to maintain data standards and enterprise reporting systems. - Oversee academic data integrity, quality assurance, and common data definitions and ensure that institutional data collection and reporting processes are reliable, valid, and ethical. - Supervise, train, and evaluate institutional research staff. - Seek Stakeholder Input (15%) - Meet regularly with academic and administrative stakeholders to solicit input on institutional data needs. - Participate in institutional strategic planning activities and identify resources and/or systemic changes required for improved research and reporting abilities - Attend professional meetings, conferences, or agency meetings as needed to remain current on institutional research needs. - Performs other related duties as assigned (5%) - Actively participates as an effective member of team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.  This description is not designed to list all activities, duties or responsibilities which may be required for this job.
