About the Role: Data Architect for Costco's Information Center
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Architect to lead the development and maintenance of our Information Center's data architecture/model. As a subject matter expert in Costco's business information domains, you will drive the creation of data models, ensure data quality, and facilitate data governance to support business applications. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert in Costco business information domains or branches of knowledge (e.g., Sales, Inventory, Promotions, etc.).
- Define certified datasets for data utilization (e.g., Reporting, Data Science, APIs, etc.).
- Develop enterprise data strategy and architectural standards for maintaining the performance, quality, data security, and compliance of certified datasets.
- Create integration documentation that outlines how data should flow from source systems to consumption layer (e.g., Source to Target Mappings).
- Support Information Stewards in capturing and documenting business metadata (e.g., definitions).
- Assess existing data architectures to improve data velocity.
- Stay current on data industry trends for data-related technologies, models, and methodologies.
- Document and provide recommendations resulting from data quality analysis.
- Drive the data architecture process in collaboration with enterprise architecture.
- Build, maintain, and evolve conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Guide the team in translating business needs into long-term architecture solutions.
- Collaborate with data engineering and data platform teams to drive continuous execution improvement by analyzing and introducing new technologies.
- Assist in defining data integration, storage, replication, and transformation protocols for the data layer of technical solutions supported by enterprise architecture.
- Participate in the delivery of operational business performance monitoring capabilities.
- Conceptualize ideas with database designers, data analysts, and data scientists to develop new data products.
- Mentor and coach the data architecture team on new technologies and approaches in data architecture and engineering.
Essential Qualifications
- Strong understanding of database storage concepts (relational databases, NoSQL, etc.).
- Experience working with data modeling tools (e.g., Erwin, PowerDesigner).
- Experience architecting and delivering data integration and ETL solutions.
- Experience designing and developing performance-optimized data models.
- Ability to work off-hours as required, including on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in data architecture with large and complex datasets.
- 2+ years of experience working with Cloud technologies like Azure SQL DB, ADLS, Azure Databricks, Cosmos DB, and other related data technologies.
- Skill in architecting and developing OLTP data models to support business applications.
- Understanding of database normalization techniques.
- Experience driving data architecture and data solutions through agile software development methodologies.
- Exposure to the retail business.
- Experience leading software development teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
