Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Applications Development Specialist to join our team in the National Capital Region area, supporting the Northstar Program. The successful candidate will provide telecommunications expert technical design, engineering, operations, and trouble resolution for a national security, mission-critical enterprise air-to-ground nationwide network. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, code, test, and debug cloud-based and embedded Linux services, ensuring high-quality solutions that meet customer requirements
- Assist in developing software system architecture from functional and non-functional requirements, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration
- Provide updates to engineering lead and program leadership on progress of development, addressing any concerns or potential issues that arise in a timely and effective manner
- Perform software design and code reviews and quality checks using commercial and open-source tools, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices
- Conduct pilot tests to assess the functionality of newly developed applications, identifying areas for improvement and optimizing performance
- Document requirements, design, and software, including drafts, revisions, and final directions, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records
- Perform maintenance activities for new and existing systems across all tiers, ensuring minimal downtime and maximizing system availability
- Participate in the analysis, design, and implementation of technical solutions to fulfill new requirements, collaborating with stakeholders to identify and prioritize needs
Required Qualifications
- Must be a US Citizen and possess or be able to attain a Top-Secret security clearance
- Relevant experience with developing web interfaces and command line client applications in C++
- Experience developing multi-threaded server C++ applications, with a strong understanding of concurrent programming principles
- Experience with client-server applications using TCP/IP and Linux IPC, with a solid grasp of network protocols and architectures
- 2+ years Qt framework expertise developing and fielding desktop applications and multi-threaded server processes
- 2+ years programming in an enterprise Linux environment, with familiarity with programming tools and technologies
- Expertise in Linux network and system programming, with a deep understanding of system internals and performance optimization techniques
- Willingness to learn and implement network protocols, such as SNMP, OSPF, EIGRP, HDLC, and others, including reading INET RFCs and validating implementations using automated test frameworks
- Understanding of JSON messaging and its use in message brokers and web applications, with experience working with data serialization and deserialization
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or relevant fields, with a strong foundation in computer science principles and software engineering practices

- MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or relevant fields, with a strong research background and experience working on complex software systems
- Experience working in an Agile development environment, with a strong understanding of Scrum principles and practices
- Familiarity with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Azure, with experience deploying and managing cloud-based applications
- Experience working with containerization technologies, such as Docker, with a strong understanding of container orchestration and management
