We are now seeking an experienced and compassionate Online Crisis Chat Text Supervisor to join our team and oversee the daily operations of this critical program.
Job Overview
The Online Crisis Chat Text Supervisor will be responsible for the overall functioning of the 988 Crisis Chat Program, including individual supervision of all Crisis Chat Counselors. This role requires a strong leader who can provide guidance, support, and quality assurance to ensure that our services meet the highest standards of excellence. The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training in active listening skills, suicide prevention practices, and the utilization of agency resources to match texters with needed information.
Training and Onboarding
The first six weeks of training are mandatory, consisting of one week of virtual training and five weeks of on-site training in Columbia, Maryland. This intensive training program will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in this role. After completing the training, you will be expected to work a hybrid schedule, combining remote and on-site work, for the first four to six months until additional on-site space becomes available.
Primary Responsibilities
As an Online Crisis Chat Text Supervisor, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Providing supervision to Crisis Chat Counselors and ensuring appropriate intervention for all chat/text visitors
- Conducting risk assessments, safety planning, de-escalation, and follow-up with chat visitors
- Building positive rapport with a wide range of chat/text visitors and providing crisis intervention as needed
- Responding to crisis chat/text visitors as needed to support Counselors on shift
- Ensuring thorough documentation is completed for all crisis chat/text interactions
- Monitoring chats and texts to ensure quality and providing feedback to Counselors
- Conducting weekly individual supervision sessions with Counselors and completing weekly quality assurance reports
- Providing training to new Crisis Chat Counselors and completing performance evaluations and yearly reviews
Secondary Responsibilities
In addition to your primary responsibilities, you may be required to:
- Report on-site on an as-needed basis
- Respond to major community events and provide debriefing/support as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned, required, or needed
Agency-wide Responsibilities
As a member of the arenaflex team, you will be expected to:
- Participate in supervision, in-service training, and staff meetings
- Maintain good working relationships with co-workers and positively contribute to group morale
- Complete all administrative duties, including time sheets and leave requests, in a timely manner
- Use appropriate channels of communication to resolve conflicts with other staff members
- Interact with staff, clients, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner
Education and Experience
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited school with a minimum of 120 college credits
- A Master's Degree in any Counseling field or Social Work is preferred
- At least one year of experience in mental health services, preferably in crisis intervention services, suicide prevention, and intervention
- Computer skills with various software, including Microsoft Products, and proficiency in internet navigation

- Share office space with Crisis Chat and Crisis Counselors
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and holidays, depending on scheduled shifts
