Description
We’re building Dayplay, a mobile app designed to help people quickly discover things to do nearby — events, activities, local spots, and experiences — without decision fatigue.
We’re looking for an experienced Information Architect or UX Taxonomy Specialist to help us design a clean, scalable category and subcategory system that powers our discovery and onboarding experience.
This taxonomy will directly inform:
Our onboarding “state gate” (questions → recommendations)
How activities and events are grouped and surfaced
Future personalization and recommendation logic
This is a short-term, high-impact engagement with potential for follow-up work.
What You’ll Do
Review our existing event/activity dataset
Design a clear category → subcategory taxonomy
Ensure categories are:
Intuitive to everyday users
Mutually exclusive where possible
Flexible enough for overlap / multi-tagging
Map categories to user intent and energy levels
Provide guidance on:
Naming conventions
Tagging rules
How the taxonomy supports decision-making
Collaborate with our product team to align taxonomy with onboarding questions
Deliverables
A finalized category and subcategory framework
Written rationale for structure and naming
Notes on edge cases and overlap handling
