TÜV SÜD is a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification. They are seeking a Junior Field Evaluation Engineer to conduct field labeling evaluations, establish customer relationships, and ensure compliance with U.S. regulatory standards during evaluations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field labeling evaluations in accordance with TÜV SÜD NRTL program requirements, including interpretation and application of applicable test standards
- Schedule and execute assigned evaluations at customer sites, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional completion of services
- Establish and maintain strong, professional relationships with customers, serving as a key technical point of contact during field evaluations
- Demonstrate working knowledge of U.S. regulatory standards and code requirements (ANSI, NFPA, UL) and apply them appropriately in field environments
- Liaise with internal engineering and technical staff to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment of evaluation methods and interpretations
- Assist with the calibration, verification, and maintenance of test and measurement equipment, ensuring documentation is current and compliant with quality requirements
- Support the preparation, review, and maintenance of technical reports and evaluation documentation, including test reports, SOPs, datasheets, and methods
- Participate in and promote process improvements and contribute to the development of new test requirements, procedures, and evaluation strategies
- Provide travel and expense cost estimates as requested for assigned projects
- Identify, report, and track non-conformities and defects identified during testing; accurately record test data and technical findings
- Review pre-evaluation documentation prior to service start to fully understand scope, objectives, and applicable requirements
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical education with relevant practical experience
- Entry-level to 2 years of experience supporting inspection, testing, or evaluation of electrical or industrial equipment in accordance with ANSI, NFPA, and UL standards (including academic projects, internships, or co-op experience)
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC / NFPA 70) and exposure to U.S. standards such as NFPA 79, UL 508A, UL 61010-1, UL 61800-5-1, UL 2202, ANSI/RIA R15.06, and UL 1740 experience supporting electrical inspections or Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) interactions is a plus
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively (50%–75%) to customer sites throughout the United States
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to interpret standards and apply requirements in field evaluation environments
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical reports and communicate professionally with customers and internal stakeholders
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals, testing methodologies, manufacturing processes, electrical schematics, and applicable safety standards
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, work independently in the field, and meet project deadlines while maintaining TÜV SÜD quality and safety expectations
