Position Overview The Senior Field Service Technician is a high-level technical leader responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex issues across utility-scale solar and related infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Technical Execution - Diagnose and resolve issues across utility-scale solar systems (DC & AC) - Perform ground fault detection, isolation, and repair - Execute advanced DC field troubleshooting - Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair inverters (string & central) - Support work in substations and switchyards (preferred experience) - Interpret schematics, single-line diagrams, and system layouts Leadership & Field Management - Lead and manage medium to large field crews - Set the tone for safety, quality, and urgency on site - Ensure work is completed on time and to spec - Hold team members accountable—no babysitting, no excuses Client & Project Interface - Serve as a frontline representative with customers on-site - Communicate issues, timelines, and solutions clearly and professionally - Support project execution, punch lists, and warranty work Documentation & Reporting - Maintain accurate, detailed service reports - Document troubleshooting steps, findings, and resolutions - Track materials, labor, and job progress - Ensure all documentation meets internal and client standards Required Experience & Qualifications - 3–5+ years of in-field experience in utility-scale solar (O&M and/or construction) - Proven expertise with: - Ground fault detection, testing, and repair - DC systems troubleshooting - Inverter diagnostics and repair - Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings - Demonstrated experience leading crews in field environments - Strong administrative discipline—if it’s not documented, it didn’t happen - Willingness and ability to travel extensively Preferred Qualifications - Experience with substations and switchyards - OSHA 30 Certification (preferred) - Electrical certifications or licensed electrician background - OEM inverter training (SMA, Power Electronics, Sungrow, GE, etc.) Core Competencies (Non-Negotiables) - Ownership Mentality – You don’t wait to be told - Problem Solver – You figure it out or escalate intelligently - Leadership Presence – People follow you because you earn it - Attention to Detail – Sloppy work and sloppy paperwork are unacceptable - Resilience – Long days, tough conditions, high expectations What Success Looks Like - Problems are solved quickly and correctly the first time - Crews are productive, aligned, and accountable - Clients trust you and request you back - Reports are clean, complete, and submitted on time - You raise the standard on every site you step on Why This Role Matters This isn’t just another technician role.
