As we expand our national work in AI integrity, governance, and public trust, we are seeking legal experts who can help steward the institution’s mandate, uphold its standards, and guide the long‑term defensibility of our frameworks.
The Legal Advisory Council supports ATIC’s highest governance bodies by ensuring that our standards, certification logic, and institutional processes remain lawful, neutral, and resilient across jurisdictions.
We are specifically seeking lawyers with expertise in:
• Administrative & Regulatory Law
Experts in federal and state administrative processes, rulemaking, agency oversight, and public‑benefit governance.
• Governance & Nonprofit Institutional Law
Lawyers experienced in board governance, fiduciary responsibility, conflicts of interest, and standards‑body independence.
• Data Privacy & Information Governance Law
Specialists in data protection, privacy frameworks, cross‑border data transfer, and compliance with emerging AI‑related regulations.
• Technology, AI, & Algorithmic Accountability Law
Attorneys who understand AI risk, model governance, provenance, and the legal implications of automated decision‑making.
• Intellectual Property & Patent Law [Highly Sought After]
Experts in IP protection, patent strategy, NDAs, licensing, technology transfer, and safeguarding proprietary AI systems, datasets, and model architectures.
• National Security & Public‑Interest Law
Experts in national security, AI impacting civil liberties, public accountability, and the legal dimensions of high‑risk technologies.
• Consumer Protection & Public‑Benefit Compliance
Lawyers with experience in FTC, state AG actions, deceptive practices, and public‑facing risk mitigation.
• Financial Regulatory & Risk Governance Law
Attorneys with backgrounds in banking oversight, compliance frameworks, and risk governance for regulated institutions.
Who Should Apply
We are looking for:
• Senior attorneys with 10+ years of experience
• Former government lawyers, agency counsel, or public‑interest legal experts
• Institutional governance lawyers who understand standards, neutrality, and public trust

What You Will Do
Members of the Legal Advisory Council will:
• Provide legal oversight on ATIC’s standards and certification criteria
• Help ensure ATIC’s frameworks are lawful, defensible, and jurisdiction‑agnostic
• Advise on governance structures, neutrality protections, and institutional safeguards
• Support the long‑term continuity and legitimacy of the Commission
• Participate in periodic reviews and high‑judgment deliberations
