(Internally Only) Role Overview The Manager, Research & Impact is responsible for building, strengthening, and operationalizing how Campaign Zero measures, evaluates, and communicates the impact of our programs, research, campaigns, and public tools. This role will develop and maintain CZ’s impact framework, track progress across multiple campaign issue areas, translate data into insights for internal & external audiences, and ensure that CZ’s work clearly demonstrates measurable change on the ground. The Manager, Research & Impact will report to the Managing Director – Research + Data (R+D), and will work across departments to bring coherence, rigor, and clarity to how CZ defines success, collects evidence, assesses progress, and tells the story of our impact to partners, funders, and the public. Description (Internally Only) The position will primarily: - Develop, maintain, and support implementation of a comprehensive organizational impact framework of legacy and launched campaigns (for example, #8Can’tWait, #NixThe6, and the 50-state legislative playbook) aligned with CZ’s mission, strategies, and campaigns; - Support development and delivery of materials and key messaging for external audiences (including community members, elected officials, and organizers); - Design and manage systems for tracking impact and stakeholder engagement across multiple projects, campaigns, and research initiatives; - Lead teams in impact analyses and legacy campaign re-launches, including policy review and proposals - Meet with stakeholders on key issues, data products, and campaigns (including #8Can’tWait, #NixThe6, and Safe Cities); - Collect, organize, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to assess program effectiveness; - Prepare timely impact reports, internal dashboards, memos, and narrative summaries for leadership and stakeholders; - Identify emerging trends across campaigns and provide actionable insights to strengthen strategy and execution; - Collaborate with Programs and R+D teams to define clear objectives, indicators, and milestones for campaign and research work; - Lead integration of cross-team initiatives such as Safe Cities; - Support participatory action research activities with R+D (with Mapping Police Violence, for example); - Support development of communication assets that clearly demonstrate impact (e.g., one-pagers, funder reports, public rollups, data visualizations); - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CZ’s research, tools, and campaigns to ensure consistent, accurate impact measurement; - Assist with the development of evaluation processes for new external coalition, research and/or legislative support; - Track shifts in policies, public opinion, community outcomes, and partner adoption resulting from CZ’s work; - Support full-time staff and part-time contractors by actively engaging in team meetings, providing constructive/actionable feedback, and implementing clear objectives, outcomes, and timelines for deliverables; - Deliver candid, solutions-focused feedback grounded in Campaign Zero’s values; and - Execute tasks and responsibilities as determined by the Managing Director — Research + Data and Managing Director –Programs & Policy. The Manager, Research & Impact is a versatile and integral part of the joyful, creative, and highly-driven Campaign Zero R+D team, with a dotted line to the Programs team on multiple campaigns and initiatives. The Manager, Research & Impact’s supervising manager will work in close collaboration with the Programs, Communications, and Development teams. Required Qualifications: - Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; - A demonstrated commitment and interest in social justice, preferably with a focus on ending police violence and achieving a world beyond policing; - 3-5 years proven experience in project management, public policy, research, or related field (can be non-traditional)- Experience facilitating group discussions, including leading focus groups; - Adaptability and agility to respond to changing and/or competing priorities and directions; - Exceptional time management skills; - Ability to backwards plan and manage complex projects; - Familiarity and experience with Google Suite, particularly Google Sheets and Docs; - Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis; - Experience reading and interpreting academic reports, legislation, local policy, and statewide statutes; - Strong interpersonal skills to ensure that positive relationships are built and maintained with internal staff and external stakeholders. - Availability to travel across the country on a regular basis, and with sometimes short notice Preferred Qualifications: - Familiarity and experience with Airtable and Asana; - A Bachelor's degree in social science or similar analytical field (i.e., Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Law, etc); - Background and experience in the design, deployment, and/or monitoring of different research methods and instruments to ensure rigor, applicability, and transparency; - Familiarity with the policy challenges in the criminal-legal system; - Lived experience with the criminal-legal system; - Experience working with a variety of community & government stakeholders; - Experience interpreting and synthesizing complex legislation and state statutes.
