We’re currently working on a cooking-themed, semi-open world game, built with care to offer players rich co‑op gameplay and dynamic environments. Note: This is a revenue share position; compensation will be based on revenue sharing, rather than an upfront salary. Job Description As a Principal Game Designer, you will take ownership of the game’s core design vision and systems. You will be responsible for defining, guiding, and maintaining the overall gameplay experience, ensuring that all systems work cohesively to deliver a compelling and polished co‑op experience. You’ll work closely with leadership, designers, programmers, and artists to align the team around a clear design direction while mentoring other designers and driving high‑level decisions. This role focuses on system ownership, design leadership, and hands‑on iteration. Key Responsibilities • Define and maintain the overall gameplay vision, pillars, and design direction. • Own and oversee core systems (cooking, progression, economy, difficulty, co‑op dynamics). • Design high‑level gameplay loops and ensure consistency across all systems. • Lead the design process, setting standards for documentation, quality, and iteration. • Mentor and guide other designers, providing feedback and direction. • Collaborate closely with programming and art teams to ensure cohesive implementation. • Identify design risks and propose solutions early in development. • Drive playtesting efforts and translate feedback into actionable improvements. • Ensure gameplay systems are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with long-term goals. Qualifications • Strong experience in game design (preferably shipped titles or equivalent experience). • Deep understanding of gameplay systems, player psychology, and game feel. • Proven ability to design and balance complex systems. • Strong leadership and decision‑making skills. • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.Ability to think both strategically and hands‑on. • Comfortable working in a remote, collaborative environment. Nice to Have • Experience leading or mentoring design teams. • Experience with multiplayer or co‑op game design. • Familiarity with Unity and implementation workflows. • Experience with live iteration, player feedback loops, and balancing. • Understanding of production pipelines and cross‑discipline workflows.
