About Pencil, Inc.:
We are a small indie game studio working on an exciting video game project. With a dedicated solo developer leading the technical side, we are seeking a Part-Time QA manager to focus on quality assurance (QA) testing and overall testing management.
Job Summary:
The QA manager will be responsible for overseeing the QA process and managing game testing and testers. This role ensures that the game’s development progresses smoothly and is thoroughly tested. Your role will be essential in ensuring that our game delivers a polished, bug-free experience and meets the expectations of our players and our backers.
Objectives:
- Android Playstore game testing
- Bug testing
- Playability testing
- Test for device compatibility (Android)
3 rounds of testing will be performed.
Responsibilities
QA Testing:
- Develop and implement QA strategy. Establish a comprehensive QA plan to ensure game quality.
- Develop and Implement QA team. Establish a trustworthy panel.
- Conduct Testing Sessions. Perform regular testing of game builds to identify and document bugs, performance issues, and usability problems.
- Bug Tracking and Reporting: Manage a system for tracking bugs and issues, ensuring they are effectively resolved in collaboration with the developer.
- QA Documentation. Maintain detailed reports.
- NDA: You will be expected to sign an NDA about the work performed here
Testing Management:
- Plan and Execute Tests: Organize and manage the testing phases, including onboarding a panel of testers.
- Gather and Analyze Feedback: Collect feedback from testers, analyze the data, and provide actionable insights for the game
- Coordinate Playtesting Sessions: Schedule and facilitate playtesting sessions, ensuring a comprehensive coverage of game features
- You will be managing a team of 10-20 QA testers and must be able to efficiently organize both their actual testing and the feedback from said tests.
Requirements:
- Experience in QA Testing: Proven experience in quality assurance, preferably within the gaming industry.
- Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks, including QA processes and beta testing coordination.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze feedback and data from QA and tests to inform game improvements.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with testers, operations, and the development team.
- Passion for Games: A genuine passion for video games and understanding of player communities and expectations.
- Independent Work Ethic: Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively within a small team environment.
Preferred:
- Game development familiarity
- Proficiency using bug tracking and documentation tools (Jira, Trello, Confluence, etc.)
- UX knowledge
Location: Remote
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per week
