Renewyx is seeking a highly experienced Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Consultant to provide technical and permitting advisory support on multi-hour and multi-day storage deployments. The role focuses on siting, regulatory strategy, and technical configuration of advanced storage technologies while advising on technology selection and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities
• Provide technical guidance on long-duration energy storage systems (10+ hour to multi-day dispatch configurations), including technologies such as flow batteries, natural gas–backed systems, and other emerging LDES solutions
• Advise on siting, permitting, and regulatory strategy, including fire risk mitigation measures (e.g., CMU wall separation, containment strategies, safety setbacks)
• Engage directly with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), including self-governing communities, to support approvals and compliance pathways
• Translate complex technical system designs into clear, actionable information for non-technical stakeholders, community groups, and regulatory bodies
• Support governance and configuration management planning across storage system deployments
• Provide insight on storage interconnection and deployment at both distribution-level systems (e.g., 12kV feeders) and transmission-level infrastructure (e.g., 230kV bus interconnections)
• Assist with mapping, site feasibility assessment, and spatial analysis (GPS/mapping tools preferred)
Skills
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with multiple LDES technologies (10-hour to multi-day duration applications)
• Deep understanding of permitting processes and fire safety requirements for energy storage projects
• Proven experience working with AHJs and navigating complex regulatory environments
• Experience engaging community stakeholders and explaining highly technical concepts in accessible language
• Familiarity with energy storage deployment across both distribution and transmission networks
• GPS and mapping software proficiency
• Experience in governance structures and configuration management best practices within infrastructure development projects
