As a Software Engineering Intern, you will help optimize an AI-powered learning tool by defining new features and capabilities, collaborating with teammates, and applying engineering principles to solve complex problems.
Responsibilities
• Apply engineering principles to solve complex problems through sound and creative engineering
• Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features
• Quickly learn new engineering methods and incorporate them into work processes
• Demonstrate skill in time management and completing engineering assignments in a collaborative team environment
• Review current build processes and proactively seek new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale
• Apply Microsoft’s Responsible AI practices and use structured feedback loops to help shape high-quality AI learning experiences—testing features, identifying usability opportunities, and providing clear recommendations that improve Copilot experiences for learners
• Participate in a cross‑group project performing structured teardowns to identify issues, opportunities and provide improvement recommendations across an end‑to‑end experience
Skills
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field during the academic term immediately before the internship
• Must have completed at least 1 year of undergraduate studies
• One year of programming experience in an object-oriented language
• Ability to demonstrate an understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms
• Experience with AI/ML projects, such as developing machine learning models, working with large datasets, or implementing AI solutions in real-world applications
• Familiarity with AI frameworks and libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn
• Experience in using AI tools to generate projects, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude code, Microsoft Roo Code or similar, with an understanding of their strengths and limitations
• Experience working cross-team, collaborating with others, prioritizing tasks, and working independently
