The college is seeking a Research Assistant to support user testing of assistive technology devices and assist in various research initiatives within the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the user testing of assistive technology devices in the laboratory by individuals who are blind or visually impaired
- Recruitment and logistics for user studies, and be the primary team member to run the user studies
- The research assistant will also be involved in study design, IRB preparation, preparation of any materials for the study and data analysis
- The position may require travel to the Washington DC area and/or the Hampton Roads area to do subject testing
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, human-computer interaction, rehabilitation engineering or related fields or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Professional demeanor
- Good interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail
- Understanding of experimental procedures and statistical analysis, including quantitative analysis methods such as analysis of variance and qualitative analysis methods such as qualitative content analysis
- Ability to be precise, thorough, reliable, and work independently
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, human-computer interaction, rehabilitation engineering or related fields is preferred
