Senior Auditor with 401k & Benefits Expertise – Part-Time & Remote

Job Overview We are looking for a detail-oriented Senior Auditor to join our team on a part-time, contract basis. The position is remote and most of the work is primarily done during busy season from May to October. The job is approximately 500 hours per year. In this role, you will oversee the planning and execution of 401k and benefit audits. This position requires a strong background in 401k & employee retirement auditing, as well as expertise in ERISA regulations and guidelines. Responsibilities • Lead audit engagements for various employee benefit plans, including 401(k), 403(b), and defined benefit plans. • Conduct comprehensive planning and risk assessments to identify areas of focus for audit testing. • Assist in testing internal control procedures related to benefit plan operations, including risk management practices and regulatory reporting. • Review compliance with ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act), IRS regulations, and other relevant federal and state requirements governing employee benefits. • Prepare clear, comprehensive audit reports and financial analysis documentation that highlight findings, risks, and recommendations for clients. • Ensure all audits adhere to applicable regulations, standards, and Uniform Guidance. • Manage audit fieldwork efficiently, maintaining deadlines and delivering quality results. • Collaborate with clients to resolve issues and provide tailored solutions based on audit outcomes. • Stay updated on industry standards and regulatory changes to maintain compliance and enhance audit practice. • Maintain confidentiality and integrity while handling sensitive financial, personnel and operational data. Requirements • Proven experience as an auditor specializing in 401(k) plans, employee benefits, or related financial services sectors. • Strong knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and regulatory reporting standards. • Demonstrated expertise in 401k audits, risk management, and technical accounting issues. • Familiarity with accounting software such as PPC Audit tools. • Excellent analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and identify discrepancies or compliance issues. • Background in public accounting environments preferred. • Strong understanding of financial concepts including general ledger accounting, financial management practices, and internal control evaluation. • Exceptional communication skills for preparing detailed reports and collaborating with diverse teams.
