The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is a not-for-profit international regulatory authority whose mission is to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid. NERC develops and enforces Reliability Standards; annually assesses seasonal and long‐term reliability; monitors the bulk power system through system awareness; and educates, trains, and certifies industry personnel. Your Impact
The Senior Business Systems Analyst is a critical liaison and analyst for business units and the technology department. This role identifies business technology requirements across process, data, system performance, and user experience dimensions; translates those requirements into technical specifications (acceptance criteria); and ensures traceability through implemented solutions and test cases. The role identifies and balances strategic and tactical opportunities, wants, and needs spanning technology and business goals and works closely with project managers, application design and development teams, technology infrastructure engineers, quality assurance professionals, and internal and external end users. By applying critical thinking skills, knowledge of technology solutions, and expertise in process, data, and human factors, this role leads the articulation of business problems that may be solved via technology and associated cost benefit analysis providing supporting qualitative and quantitative information used in the solution evaluation and decision process.

Your Role
- Business Systems Analysis: Conduct research and analysis to understand business technology needs and identify opportunities for improvement and assess impact of change. Collaborate with technology users to identify and synthesize business systems requirements. Create clear, concise, complete, and detailed business requirements documents, user stories / use cases, process maps, and functional and non-functional specifications to support system implementations. Translate business needs into functional specifications useable by technology development and quality assurance teams. Documents created should clearly illustrate the current and future states through epics, features, user stories, context diagrams, wire frames, workflow design, process /data flows and narratives, and object / data models. Communicate requirements and system analysis artifacts to project teams, product teams, and business users. Provide a requirements management plan that articulates the who, what, when, where and how requirements are identified, tracked, and managed. Ensure all deliverables are of high quality through self-evaluations and co-worker reviews.
- Business Relationship Management: Create and foster relationships across the NERC and ERO organizations based on assigned departments or as necessary to ensure alignment with business unit strategies through the implementation of department dossiers.
- IT Governance and Planning: Engage with business units to identify and analyze potential projects and initiatives, assessing their viability and strategic alignment with organizational goals, objectives and key priorities. Lead the development of scope-level requirements and business case justifications, inclusive of cost benefit analysis.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Change Management: Liaison between business and technical teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. Partner with project managers, solution leads, the quality assurance team, and project sponsors to manage stakeholder expectations and provide regular updates on project progress. Provide guidance and support to solution developers and testers throughout the project lifecycle. Assist the project management team with strategies for system / feature adoption, communication, training and help materials.
- Project Management: Understand the applicable project methodology (i.e., Agile, Iterative, Scrum, Waterfall) to provide the project manager with level of effort, duration, and dependency information to define a project schedule. Execute the roles and responsibilities that enable effective contribution to project planning and delivery.
- Problem Solving and Solution Design: Identify and analyze business problems and proposed solutions. Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement solutions that meet business needs while aligning with technology architecture. Evaluate the impact of proposed solutions and recommend the best course of action. Plays a crucial role in documenting and communicating the problem, the solution, and implementation activities.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in business processes and systems. Collaborate with stakeholders to implement changes resulting in innovative capabilities, improved user experience, efficiency or effectiveness. Assess the performance of implemented solutions and make recommendations for further improvement.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have at a minimum:
- Seven to ten years' experience with business systems analysis responsibilities.
- Goal oriented with strong critical thinking skills, curiosity, desire to learn, and passion to solve complex issues and problems
- Bachelor’s degree in system analysis, business, computer science, information systems, or equivalent degree
- Proven working experience performing business analysis inclusive of requirements solicitation, elaboration, synthesis and documentation, traceability matrices, user stories or use cases, functional and non-functional specifications, process flow and data/object model design.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge and experience with business information application support
- Proficient in writing user guides and training materials for business applications
- Desire and ability to work both independently and collaboratively with teams and to support multiple assignments concurrently
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills: listening with purpose as well as written, live, and recorded communication
- Proficient with office software (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation) and process and system design tools (Visio, Figma, or equivalent)
- Comfortable working in an Agile-like, iterative-based project approach
Preferred candidates will also have:
- Experience using six-sigma, TQM, or equivalent process efficiency design methodologies
- Certified Business Analysis Profession (CBAP) certification
- Cost benefit or return on investment (ROI) business analysis experience focusing on total cost of ownership (TCO) for IT-based systems
- Risk identification, mitigation, and trade-off experience
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence prompt engineering, model training and tuning, and/or language models.

- The position may be based remotely but must be able to travel to NERC offices or meeting locations if needed. Reimbursement of travel expenses will be in accordance with the company’s travel and expense reimbursement policies.
