Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Content Distribution Engineer to join our Media Engineering organization as part of the Distribution Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Disney Distribution Mesh, managing incidents, and performing root cause analysis. They will also be responsible for reviewing performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement, and working to solve distribution issues in concert with our operations and engineering organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Disney Distribution Mesh, ensuring seamless content distribution across multiple platforms and channels
- Actively manage incidents, communicating across distribution teams, and performing root cause analysis to identify and resolve issues
- Review performance metrics across our caching infrastructure, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to optimize performance
- Work to solve distribution issues in concert with our operations and engineering organizations, ensuring timely and effective resolution of problems
- Build and execute frameworks for Incident, Problem, and Change Management based on ITIL standards, ensuring that our processes are aligned with industry best practices
- Provide tier-2 on-call evaluation, escalation, and support, ensuring that our team is always available to respond to critical issues
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- A BS/BA degree in a relevant field, such as computer science, engineering, or a related discipline
- A minimum of 5 years of experience managing caching solutions, preferably in a Content Distribution Network environment
- Expert knowledge of CDN Provider architectures and configurations, including experience with streaming video protocols (HLS) and caching technologies
- Ability to perform network troubleshooting, including knowledge of HTTP/DNS/Internet Architecture, caching (Varnish), web serving (NGINX, HAProxy), and cloud technologies (AWS, GCP)
- Strong scripting skills, including experience with languages such as Python, and configuration management tools such as Ansible and AWX
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a strong ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
- Knowledge of security protocols, including SSL certificates and TLS, and experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible and AWX
- Experience working with cloud-based technologies, including AWS and GCP, and knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker
- Strong understanding of video players and their impact on cache logic, including experience with video streaming protocols such as HLS and DASH
