Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver high-quality instruction aligned with Minnesota State Standards and District Graduation Requirements, catering to the diverse needs of students with Developmental Cognitive Disabilities.
- Utilize a range of assessment strategies to inform instructional decisions, promote student self-management of learning, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Create engaging, inquiry-based learning tasks that encourage students to explore the subject matter in depth and develop essential skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
- Collaborate with peers to develop and implement best practices, share knowledge, and support student success.
- Assess student developmental, cognitive, and social needs, and provide tailored instruction to meet those needs, ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with families, involving them in educational decisions and leveraging community resources to support student learning.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, reflecting on teaching practices, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the MPS Online K-5 program.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must possess:
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
- A valid Minnesota teaching license in Mild to Moderate Developmental Disabilities or Academic Behavior Strategist, or proof of pending approved licensure.
- Prior successful experience in student teaching or teaching in an urban, multicultural education setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development through coursework, research, peer collaboration, and job-embedded staff development.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience working with students with Developmental Cognitive Disabilities.
- Knowledge of best practices in special education, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Differentiated Instruction.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
