SQL / Data Engineer – Project-Based (Long-Term Opportunity)
We are looking for a highly skilled SQL / Data Engineer to complete an initial paid project.
Strong performance on this project may lead to ongoing, full-time work supporting our production databases.
CORE REQUIREMENTS
- Advanced SQL skills (joins, subqueries, schema design, data types)
- Experience building ETL / data ingestion pipelines
- Comfortable working with large datasets and thousands of files
- Experience loading data from CSV and/or XML sources
- SQL Server experience preferred (SQLite acceptable)
- Ability to write repeatable, well-documented scripts
- Strong attention to data quality and consistency
WORKING HOURS
- Must overlap most of the U.S. business day
- Full overlap not required, Availability during U.S. mornings, afternoons or is acceptable
INITIAL PROJECT (SKILLS TEST)
PROJECT SUMMARY
- Build and populate a SQL database using provided schema scripts
- Ingest quarterly regulatory data from a large set of compressed files
PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create a database with four required tables
- Follow strict table and field naming conventions
- Add standardized identifier fields (primary key, insert date, source file name)
- Process a master zip containing thousands of nested zip files
- Load CSV or XML data into the appropriate tables
- Handle data type mismatches and field length issues
DELIVERABLES
- Fully populated database (SQL Server .bak file or SQLite database file)
- All SQL/scripts/tools used for data loading
- Brief documentation explaining how the process can be repeated
