Job Overview

As a Sylvan Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a positive personal learning experience for students by teaching them using our proprietary program materials. You will use these materials to create balanced and robust learning experiences for students, evaluating their progress on each assignment, communicating this progress, and working with our Center staff to ensure that learning is personalized for each student. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare for each instructional session by gathering and preparing materials as appropriate
• Greet students and initiate instruction to personally engage each student
• Instruct students according to the design of the Sylvan programs
• Manage students, tasks, and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session
• Evaluate and record the progress of each student on their program assignment
• Use praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn
• Motivate students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements according to our instructional management standards
• Record and track tokens earned by students
• Manage the conclusion of each instructional session and manage the completion of learning log and transition activities
• Support procedures to ensure student safety and well-being
• Communicate specific student needs to Center staff
• Attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed
• Complete certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

• Four-year degree or equivalent required
• State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired) preferred
• Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred
• Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers
• Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college-level math for math program teachers
• Experience working with children in a class or small group setting
• Familiarity with the SAT and/or ACT and STAAR testing preferred for test prep tutors
• Knowledge of general office equipment such as copiers, printers, and office phones
• Knowledge of tablet computers preferred
