Remote Civil Engineer — Land Development & Drainage (South Florida) - Contract to Hire

Apply Now
About the role We are a Miami-based civil engineering firm specializing in land development, site design, and drainage infrastructure across Miami-Dade and Broward counties. We are growing and looking for a skilled remote civil engineer who can plug into our workflow, work independently from day one, and produce permit-ready deliverables. You will have access to our design standards, templates, project brief, and an established review process. Your job is to execute — produce drawings, run calculations, coordinate agency comments, and keep projects moving. What you will work on 1. Site plan preparation and civil drawing packages for land development projects 2. Drainage design including SWMM/ICPR modeling and pond sizing calculations 3. Preparation and submission coordination for WASD, FDOT, SFWMD, and Miami-Dade/Broward municipal permits 4. Responding to and resolving city and agency review comments — drafting written responses and marking up revised drawings accordingly 5. Grading, paving, and utility plans (water, sewer, storm) 6. Quantities, engineer's estimates, and project reports as needed What we provide - Project briefs, survey files, and all background data - Firm CAD/design standards and templates — you follow our format, not yours - Clear scope per task with defined deliverables and deadlines - Direct access to the project manager for questions — no bureaucratic layers - Consistent, ongoing project volume for the right person Required qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering - 3+ years of civil engineering experience in South Florida land development or drainage - Direct experience with WASD, FDOT, and/or SFWMD permitting processes - Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or comparable CAD platform - Ability to interpret and respond to agency review comments independently - Strong written communication — comment responses must be clear, professional, and technically accurate - Reliable remote setup: stable internet, video call availability during core hours (EST) Preferred (nice to have) - Experience with project management tools like ClickUp, Asana and Monday.com - PE license or active EI with PE path underway - Experience with ICPR4 or SWMM stormwater modeling - Familiarity with Miami-Dade and Broward municipal review portals - GIS experience a plus How we work together We operate lean. You will receive a project brief, existing drawings or survey data, and a deadline. We expect you to take ownership of the task, flag blockers early, and deliver a complete, reviewable package. We are not looking for someone who needs daily check-ins — we are looking for someone who runs the play and reports back with results. This starts as a contract engagement with clear milestones. If the collaboration works well, it grows. Simple as that.
