They are seeking a Tax Auditor I to examine individual income tax returns and records to ensure taxpayer compliance with North Carolina tax laws, maintaining an audit plan, and effectively communicating complex information to taxpayers.
Responsibilities
- Examine individual income tax returns and records to ensure taxpayer compliance with the Revenue laws of North Carolina
- Review and audit individual income tax returns to ensure they are in compliance with the statutes
- Make appropriate adjustments based on the accounting records available
- Maintain an audit plan, which includes simultaneously selecting audit candidates, scheduling taxpayer interviews, reviewing provided records, and preparing and submitting audit reports for timely review
- Perform work in a timely fashion and effectively communicate complex and technical information to taxpayers
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting or related field with at least twelve semester hours of accounting from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Basic knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and Income Tax
- Basic proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software
- Basic knowledge of auditing and accounting principles and practices
- This position is subject to federal and state criminal background checks that may include fingerprinting and verification of tax compliance
- A transcript (either official or unofficial) must accompany the application to verify completion of the required twelve accounting hours
