About the Role: Staff Experience Designer – DLS
We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Experience Designer to join our design team. As a Staff Experience Designer, you will be responsible for creating world-changing products and experiences for Airbnb Guests and Hosts. You will be a hands-on leader, elevating Airbnb design through your craft and paving the way for innovation in not only what we make, but how we make it.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and research, to deliver end-to-end experiences that delight our users.
The Difference You Will Make
Airbnb's design language system is authored by multiple teams and succeeds by providing high-quality digital products, tools, support, and education to the broader Design organization. As a Staff Experience Designer, you will be the steward for Airbnb Design as it relates to systematic thinking, intuitive interactions, and attention to design details. You will set design direction, work with cross-functional teams, partner with project teams to deliver inclusive end-to-end experiences, and execute new design system opportunities.
A Typical Day
As a Staff Experience Designer, your day will be filled with a variety of exciting challenges and opportunities. Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Leading projects or initiatives, defining strategy, objectives, and setting the vision for the user experience
- Overseeing multiple streams of work across all platforms and devices
- Inspiring and directing your team to help them build towards a meaningful vision efficiently
- Advancing craft on your team, ensuring consistency and accessibility across a variety of products and platforms in the end-to-end user experience
- Defining and evangelizing Airbnb's design language system throughout the organization
- Providing leadership and mentorship for a team of Experience Designers through the interaction and visual design of products and services from end-to-end for a global audience
- Partnering with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, Researchers, and Content Strategists to define problems and goals, map user flows, prototype interactions, and launch new products and services
Your Expertise
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- 10+ years of experience with end-to-end product design
- Proven ability to define the design process and lead others through it
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Excellent visual, interaction, and prototyping design skills
- Systems-thinking ability, with the ability to think beyond the pixels and design for offline experiences
- Demonstrated ability to help a team navigate ambiguity, set vision and strategy for global products
Essential Qualifications
In addition to the skills and experience listed above, you will need to have:
- A strong portfolio that showcases your design expertise and experience
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and outside the box
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate design concepts and ideas to stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience working with design systems and design languages
- Experience working with global products and audiences
- Experience with design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and InVision
- Experience with front-end development and coding languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
