Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate facility in the skills of reading, writing, and mathematics, and apply these skills to teach biology and other science subjects to students in grades 7-12
• Plan instruction to achieve selected objectives, including those appropriate for exceptional students, and effectively implement instructional plans using appropriate techniques and materials
• Effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues, and establish a positive learning environment that promotes student engagement and motivation
• Help students develop positive self-concepts and facilitate their independence as learners, and effectively assess student needs and progress
• Meet professional responsibilities, including continuing growth and development, and foster cooperative involvement with parents and the community
• Use technology, including operating systems, office suites, presentation software, and student information systems, to enhance instruction and communication

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a valid Connecticut teacher certificate in science, with a focus on biology and 7-12 science cross endorsement. You will also need to demonstrate excellence in teaching the subject area and/or instructional levels targeted, and show evidence of your ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers, and educational assistants.

Essential qualifications include:

• A valid Connecticut teacher certificate in science (030-Biology, 7-12; 031-Chemistry, 7-12; 032-Physics, 7-12; 033-Earth Science, 7-12; 034-General Science, 7-12)
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching biology and other science subjects to students in grades 7-12
• Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers, and educational assistants
• Superior communication skills (oral and written)
• Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and implement technology, including operating systems, office suites, presentation software, and student information systems

Preferred qualifications include:

• Dual certification in TESOL, Bilingual Education, or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English
• Experience teaching in a diverse and inclusive educational environment
• Knowledge of and/or experience with project-based learning, STEM education, and other innovative teaching methods
