Job Overview
We are seeking highly motivated and knowledgeable Part Time Peer and Professional Tutors to join our team at Penn State Shenango. As a tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting students' academic success by providing individualized guidance, instruction, and mentorship in a variety of subjects. Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality tutoring services to students in assigned subjects, including but not limited to: Accounting, Anatomy/Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, Communications, Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity/Information Sciences and Technology, Economics, English/Writing, Finance, History, Math (all levels), Microbiology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physics/Engineering, Psychology, Statistics, Study Skills, and Spanish
- Utilize various tutoring formats, such as by-appointment-only, walk-in, study groups, embedded tutoring, or online tutoring, to accommodate diverse student needs and preferences
- Develop and implement effective tutoring strategies to promote student understanding, retention, and academic achievement
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, student progress, and other relevant information
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other tutors to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment
- Participate in training, workshops, and professional development opportunities to enhance tutoring skills and stay current with best practices in education
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications:
- Professional Tutors: Hold a degree in a related field of study
- Peer Tutors: Be an excellent student with a strong academic record, achieving an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and a minimum grade of A- in the subject(s) tutored
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and academic levels
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the subject matter, as well as the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner
- Reliability, flexibility, and adaptability in scheduling and tutoring approaches
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, respecting student privacy, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethics
Preferred Qualifications
