Job Overview and Responsibilities
In this exciting and challenging role, you will act as the technical lead in the payments space, designing and building a platform that interfaces with various systems inside and outside Wayfair and partners globally. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Planning and building a platform that connects with various systems inside and outside Wayfair and partners globally
- Playing a critical role in developing and driving a long-term technology strategy for Wayfair's Fintech and Reliability environment
- Designing and reviewing code to implement high-quality, scalable, future-proof services that will have effective system limits and will support long-term vision and strategy
- Leading technical discussions across the entire platform and helping to reach strong recorded resolutions
- Driving high-impact building solutions and involved development, including origin, design, implementation, and delivery following good design and coding practices
- Fanatically focusing on production readiness for the team, including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and proactive troubleshooting
- Identifying risks and gaps in technical approaches and proposing solutions to meet the department's technical vision
- Influencing and contributing to the department's strategy and roadmap
- Supporting the growth of other engineers technically by mentoring, pairing, and creating other opportunities for education
- Being remotely recognized as a collaborative and sound informed authority for the wider team's core area
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as computer science or engineering
- Expertise in the payments engineering domain, particularly experience with larger scope integrations (credit cards, financing, BNPL, apps)
- E-commerce or customer-facing technology experience on a high-traffic website is a significant plus
- Proven experience driving software changes within high-growth environments at scale
- Experience in architecting and building large-scale, cloud-based technology
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience leading teams forward and ability to influence results
- Technical requirements, including:
- Openness to cloud-native technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) at scale
- Distributed systems experience
- Data-based technologies in the cloud
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
While not essential, the following qualifications and skills are highly desirable:
- Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git
- Knowledge of cloud-based security and compliance frameworks, such as PCI-DSS and SOC 2
