About Us: Where Innovation Meets Inclusivity
As a member of Target's Packaging team, you'll have the valuable opportunity to contribute to the development of packaging for Target's cherished owned brands, exclusive partnerships, and travel packaging. Your influence will drive sales and grow brand love through packaging that is visitor-driven, on-brand, competitive "at-rack," and class-leading. You'll leverage internal and external partnerships, research, and drive analysis to support packaging innovation drives. As part of a global team spanning the US, China, and India, you'll collaborate with packaging offices abroad, as well as global vendors and suppliers. Key Responsibilities: Shaping the Future of Packaging
- Create and deploy strategies for value engineering practices, idea generation, and transformation execution to reduce costs and increase effectiveness, thereby enhancing the value of products and packaging at scale across all areas of Owned Brand businesses.
- Develop a solid understanding of business and operational processes within Target's Supply Chain and Digital order fulfillment to inform insights and create a shared perspective across the broader Owned Brand organization and external partners.
- Identify opportunities to drive efficiencies through a pilot/test/iterate framework across Global Supply Chain and Logistics (GSCL) network defined for packaging designs, materials, and systems.
- In partnership with cross-functional teams, work to identify, prioritize, and lead packaging teams in damage mitigation, quality enhancement, and cost optimization opportunities to influence decisions and design direction.
- Lead a structured problem-solving prioritization, execution, and sustained process improvement to positively impact vendor case pack (VCP), store shipping pack (SSP), unit of measure (UoM), item preparation, and container loading for packaging design guidelines at scale.
- Inform business decisions by highlighting opportunities, identifying correlations, defining experiments, and determining cause-and-effect relationships of packaging systems with Global Supply Chain and Logistics (GSCL), Sourcing, Value and Cost Engineering CoE, and Packaging Specialists.
- Work cross-functionally to define financial, analytical, and business metrics to measure complex decision model outcomes and develop meaningful incentives for value engineering strategies and prioritization.
- Leverage a blend of key metrics, Lean Six Sigma, plant GEMBA walks, and other activities to understand what's working well and where to improve in partnership with field operations.
- Collaborate with the Product and Technology teams to advance data and reporting agility, for both lagging and leading metrics.
- Foster a culture of innovation, carefully considered business models, testing, and learning.
- Understand the strategy and impact of regulations and guidelines, identifying risks and opportunities for non-compliance.
- Create and maintain a positive team culture by demonstrating behaviors consistent with Target's values of Inclusivity, Connection, and Drive; ensure ongoing, effective communications to the team, and support individualized development by offering regular performance feedback, coaching, recognition, and assessment.
About You: The Ideal Candidate
To excel in this role, you'll need:
- A four-year degree in Manufacturing Excellence, Process Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or a related field; postgraduate education is a plus.
- Periods of work experience in process improvement fields.
- Green Belt Certification or knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma.
- Experience with execution metrics and process improvement frameworks.
- The ability to influence without authority, manage projects, work with groups, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport, and collaborate effectively, both internally and externally, across all levels of an organization.
- Flexibility and adaptability; the capacity to pivot, be open to working in ambiguous and constantly changing environments.
- The ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience leading dispersed teams as well as projects, driving collaboration, empowerment, and teamwork.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, innovative thinking, and analytical skills.
- The ability to use data to influence senior leaders and defend your perspective.
- Strong interpersonal skills characterized by effective interactions with a diverse range of internal and external constituents, stakeholders, and audiences.
- Related knowledge with packaging or consumer products manufacturing is a plus.
- Strong organizational and hierarchical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), Visio applications.
