ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:Steelhead Collective is a collaboration between non-profit organizations in British Columbia and the United States to support the health of steelhead populations across their range, by sharing information and collaborating on strategic actions.
POSITION SUMMARY:The Project Director position is newly-created and is crucial to the Collective’s effective operation. With enthusiastic support from Collective member organizations, operational funding, and an ambitious vision, the Collective is ready to select priority projects and develop strategic action plans to achieve desired outcomes. The Project Director will be entrepreneurial, highly knowledgeable about Steelhead conservation needs and opportunities, well-connected within the Steelhead conservation community, and have a track-record of Steelhead conservation success. In close coordination with and as a member of the Collective’s Design Team, the Project Director will capitalize on growing momentum by strategically selecting goals, weaving together strategies utilizing the capacity and expertise of member organizations, incubating new ideas, raising funds, and elevating our project as a key thought leader.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Management - Develop, refine, and implement overall project vision, strategy, and programmatic priorities in coordination with the Collective’s Design Team.
- Provide oversight and leadership for the project’s programmatic work.
- Lead the development and implementation of the project’s growth plan, including staffing, communications, infrastructure, etc.
- Evaluate and revise programmatic strategy over time.
- Provide leadership, direction, and support for all staff and contractors, as required.
- If a decision is made to form an Advisory Board for the project, identify and recruit Advisory Board members.
- If an Advisory Board is formed, manage relationships with the project’s Advisory Board; plan and facilitate regular meetings, as needed..
Fundraising and Budget Management - Develop and manage the project’s relationships with current and potential funders.
- Identify and cultivate new donors for the project as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with Multiplier to manage the project budget and cash flow, ensuring there is sufficient, ongoing funding for project expenses.
- Working with Multiplier, manage grant reporting for the project.
- Oversee annual budgeting for the organization.
Oversight of Member Group Engagement - In coordination with the Design Team, annually assess engagement of member groups to ensure accountability, including effective collaboration with other member groups and external partners, and performance of agreed upon actions.
Administrative Management - Ensure that project records and documents—financial and otherwise—are maintained in compliance with current laws and regulations and provide these details to Multiplier when requested.
- Serve as the project liaison to Multiplier staff regarding expense, contracts, etc.
- Keep Multiplier’s Executive Director abreast of critical changes in the project’s programming, staffing, and funding.

- Experience developing a new organization, program, or project from inception or an early stage.
- Experience managing the implementation and evaluation of an ongoing program or project.
- Experience working within an NGO setting.
- Experience managing a group of expert advisors or a Board.
- Experience representing an organization or program externally to stakeholders, funders, or others.
- Experience in a managerial or leadership role.
- Experience managing staff, contractors, and consultants.
- Proven success balancing the vision of an organization with the day-to-day program and operational details.
- Demonstrated operational skills as well as the ability to manage time and resources, including budget, organizational planning, and infrastructure development.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising.
- Proven expertise in project content area.
- Education, degrees, or certification appropriate for the content area and project scope.
- Experience managing an organization or program of similar size and scope.
- Superb interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure and time restraints.
- A self-starter, comfortable working independently and with little or no direction.
- A track record of applying sound strategic judgment in complex situations.
- Proven ability to manage systems so that things run smoothly and can be easily understood by others.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and seize opportunities.
- Compelling communicator (written, email, presentations, phone and in person). People enjoy engaging with you.

Workplace & Compensation
Workplace: All team members work from home offices and are required to travel semi-annually for strategic planning retreats, and occasionally for meetings with member groups, fishery managers and policymakers, and existing or potential donors.
Compensation: Multiplier provides a comprehensive compensation package, including competitive salary ($100,000 annual salary), excellent medical and dental benefits, retirement savings, and generous vacation and sick leave policy.
