Job Overview: Senior Tutor/Test Prep Mentor
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Tutor/Test Prep Mentor to join our team of dedicated educators. As a Senior Tutor/Test Prep Mentor, you will play a vital role in assisting students in preparing for college by providing one-on-one tutoring for the ACT and SAT exams, tutoring multiple academic subjects, and mentoring students through their overall high school academic journey. Our tutors are referred to as Academic Mentors because we prioritize the holistic development of each of our students, focusing on their academic, personal, and social growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one tutoring to students in preparation for the ACT and SAT exams, focusing on strategies and techniques to improve scores
- Tutor multiple academic subjects, including algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus, chemistry, physics, biology, economics, history, English, and Spanish, as well as AP Computer Science, AP Economics, SSAT, and/or ISEE
- Mentor students through their high school academic journey, offering guidance and support to help them achieve their academic goals
- Develop and implement personalized learning plans tailored to each student's needs and learning style
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure a collaborative and supportive learning environment
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices in tutoring and test preparation
Essential Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, you must possess the following essential qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as education, psychology, or a subject-specific area (e.g., mathematics, science, English)
- Prior experience teaching or tutoring, with a focus on ACT/SAT preparation and academic subject matter
- A strong understanding of the ACT and SAT exams, including content, format, and scoring
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues
- Reliable internet access and a dedicated workspace for online tutoring
- Availability to tutor in-person 2-3 times a week in designated locations (Brentwood, Beverly Hills, Pacific Palisades, and/or Santa Monica)
Preferred Qualifications:
While not required, the following preferred qualifications will be considered an asset:
- Advanced degree in education or a related field
- Specialized training or certification in test preparation, academic coaching, or a related area
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying learning styles
- Familiarity with online tutoring platforms and technology
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekday evenings and weekends
