Key Responsibilities
- Gather necessary information to verify critical member benefits insurance coverage, including policy numbers, group numbers, and demographic details.
- Review insurance plans and policies to determine the extent of coverage for different medical procedures, treatments, medications, or services.
- Contact insurance providers to verify eligibility, coverage limits, pre-authorization requirements, and any specific benefits relevant to member services or treatments.
- Explain the verification process, provide updates on the status of benefits verification, and address any questions or concerns related to coverage or financial responsibility.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of insurance verification activities, including documenting conversations, collecting insurance information, and updating patient or member profiles.
- Communicate any authorization requirements, coverage limitations, or pre-certification processes to ensure smooth billing and claims processing.
- Investigate and resolve any challenges or conflicts that may arise during the verification process, working closely with insurance providers, patients, or members to find resolutions.
- Propose process enhancements, automation, or system improvements to streamline operations and enhance the overall effectiveness of benefits verification activities.
- Respond to member inquiries and concerns promptly, empathetically, and professionally, ensuring a positive customer experience.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Less than 1 year of work experience, although experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Experience working in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Outlook, and Word, with strong computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Certified Professional, Life and Health Insurance Program (CPLHI) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) certification.
- Minimum one year of experience working in a healthcare environment, with knowledge of healthcare insurance and medical terminology.
- Experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party vendors, as well as prior direct customer service experience in the medical field.
- Epic experience is also a plus.
